This is a wood engraving of the Bowery Boy Riot in 1857 and shows the "Dead Rabbit" barricade. The caption reads, " View from the "Dead Rabbit" barricade in Bayard Street, taken at the height of the battle by our own artist, who, as spectator, was present at the fight." This was a fight between two gangs, the "Dead Rabbits" and the "Bowery Boys," in the Sixth Ward, New York City.
