Title
Owen Daley; 1875 Census (Owen Misnamed as Eugene)
Subject
1875 New York census
In years ending in zero (ie. 1870 or 1880), the federal government did a census; those are the well-known census documents housed at the National Archives. New York state, however, conducted its own census in years ending in five, such as this one.

Description
Owen is mistakenly named as "Eugene" in this document. However, given that all of the family information and other identifying markers of personhood are consistent with the earlier census records, other than the name, it is highly probable that the 1875 census taker simply wrote the head of household down as "Eugene" instead of Owen. This is especially likely given that Owen has a son named Eugene and a nephew named Eugene, both of whom appear in this census as well.
